Mental Health Review: Community Healthcare Clinic (CHCC)

So I got the chance to attend a Community Mental Wellness Fair last month.

We had the privilege of having a variety of mental health resources that are available in the area of Selangor gathered in one location. 

Personally, it was a fruitful time of being able to find out more and to engage with them.

One of the booths that were there was CHCC or Community Healthcare Clinic.

Let me tell you a bit about them. So this is portrayed on their front page on their website:

"We are CHCC - A Community Healthcare Clinic offering affordable, anonymous testing, treatment and counselling for anyone with sexual health concerns."

They provide a list of services at their clinic:

• STD & HIV testing
• Health Screening
• Treatment & Medication
• HIV Services
• Vaccination
• Personal & Online Counselling

Not only do they purport to offer affordable services (see https://www.chcclinic.org/our-prices) but they also run a sponsorship program if you can't afford the help.

They also have articles to provide education about being safe and also on HIV.

In a country that is religious and conservative such as Malaysia, I thought that this is a great resource available for anyone who has such concerns, regardless of personal views.

In our community, it's often a taboo to even talk about this. 

However, awareness about the resources available is key. 

Some people might not be in the situation that they are in by choice. 

Let's strive to provide the support and the resources so that they never feel that they are alone and there is no way forward.
